Private viewing of incarnation – an audio visual experience

In December, St James’s Church in Piccadilly London hosted the opening of an installation by artist Laurent Muller entitled Incarnation and inspired by St John’s Co-Cathedral in Valletta – a temple of the Knights of St John and a gem of Baroque art and architecture.

During the opening, composer and pianist Clifford Borg performed a piano recital of his own works from his first two albums ‘Origin’ and ‘Drifted’, together with the world premier compositions inspired by St John’s - ‘Chiaroscuro’ and ‘Ave Maria’. Clifford Borg’s performance was received very well and in the surroundings of Laurent Muller’s installation, the audience was treated to a complete audio visual experience of heritage art and music.

Mr. Joseph Zammit Tabona, Malta’s High Commissioner in the UK, Mr Alex Incorvaja, Director UK and Ireland, Malta Tourism Authority (MTA); and Mr Dominic Micallef, MTA Segment Head, History and Culture, welcomed and addressed those present at St James’s. They all expressed their satisfaction to witness an excellent example of how Maltese cultural and patrimonial richness can be exported and exhibited in another country. Both artists were commended for seeking to preserve Maltese heritage through art and music and particularly for demonstrating to have a unique perception and privileged insight into the masterpiece that is St John’s.

Laurent Muller thanked the Malta Tourism Authority, the Malta High Commission in London, Air Malta and St John’s Co-Cathedral Foundation for their invaluable support. A reception followed at the Malta High Commission, just across the road from St James’s Church, where the guests could closely view Laurent Muller’s exhibited works of art and discuss Incarnation’s inspiration and interpretation with the artist himself.

The exhibition Incarnation by Laurent Muller, based on the minimalist concept of transferring heritage to another major location in Europe, will run until 9 January 2010 at St James’s Church, 197 Piccadilly, London W1J 9LL.
