MTA sponsors popular Maltese jockey Charles Degiorgio

On Sunday 24th January it was announced that the Malta Tourism Authority will be helping Maltese professional horse trainer and driver Charles Degiorgio. In 2009, Degiorgio established himself as one of the leading trainers and drivers in Sweden and was also awarded ‘Best Driver’ of the Mantorp Racetrack in Sweden. Apart from this, one of the horses trained by Degiorgio, Rolls Royce was chosen as the most aspiring horse in Sweden for 2009. In 2009, horses trained or driven by Charles Degiorgio took part in 378 races, winning 51 races, ending second 35 times and third 32 times.

The success of Mr Degiorgio, attracted the attention of the public and therefore the MTA saw him as a suitable Maltese Ambassador in Sweden. Mr Degiorgio and the MTA have entered into a 2 year sponsorship agreement which see the visitmalta logo emblazoned on the jockey’s racing silks and on the horse trailer used by Mr Degiorgio. This initiative is yet another innovative way of raising Malta’s visibility through sponsorships in the world of sport. Horse Racing is a very popular and much followed sport in Scandinavia particularly in Sweden.
