Tourism Professions highlighted at National Careers Convention
Visitors attending the recent National Careers Convention were given information regarding tourism career opportunities, as well as educational paths that could be followed. Students from the ITS and University of Malta interacted with the visitors and shared their educational experiences with them.
This was possible after the Industry HR Development Unit within the Malta Tourism Authority, together with the Institute of Tourism Studies (ITS), the Department of Tourism within the University of Malta and the Malta Hotels and Restaurants Association, participated in the Careers Convention organised by the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport between the 1st and 4th April.
Several stakeholders from the industry also shared their work experience and the benefits of working in the tourism industry, with the large number of students who visited the Convention.
A talk to the public was organised to raise awareness of various career opportunities available within the tourism industry. Representatives from the English Language Sector, Tourist Guides, Hospitality in general and Incoming Travel operators encouraged the audience to take on a career in tourism. The discussion highlighted the importance of the personal qualities required in this field, including self-confidence; a charismatic personality; a willingness to learn and work; self-presentation; dedication; and respect for heritage, culture and the tourist.
