Sheffield United players brighten up Mater Dei children's wards
On Tuesday 24 March, Management and support staff of Sheffield United FC (SUFC) as well as renowned players Ugo Ehiogu and Billy Sharpe, paid a courtesy visit to the children recovering in the wards at Mater Dei. The players spent a substantial amount of time touring the wards and chatting with all the children and handing out gifts. The visit went down well not only with the children, but with their families and the hospital staff, whose sterling work was also recognised by the Sheffield contingent.

Sheffield United are in Malta for a three-day training camp, however they specifically requested to visit the hospital in order to give out token gifts and spread smiles amongst the children. As a club, Sheffield United is famous for its strong sense of commitment towards the community both in the UK and abroad. In fact Sheffield United's sister team, Hungarian side Ferencvaros, also paid a similar visit in February when the team was here for a one week training camp. SUFC promote core values and education through their nurseries and see their football world as a family.
This Corporate Social Responsibility is also being promoted in Malta through such visits, as confirmed by senior SUFC official Andy Daykin who said that "Sheffield United has a strong commitment towards Corporate Social Responsibility and that is why we make it a point to include hospitals, homes, nurseries and schools in our programmes both at home and abroad".
