National and EU co-funded schemes and the role of the Eco-certification

Last February, the Quality Development Unit within the MTA organised a well-attended informative seminar for hotels on the Eco-certification scheme as well as other national and EU-funded schemes currently being offered by Malta Enterprise and the Tourism and Sustainable Development Unit within OPM.

Representatives from Malta Enterprise gave an overview of the Energy Audit scheme, financed by national funds, and the Energy Efficiency & Renewable Resources scheme, funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF). These two presentations were followed by a presentation on the Tourism Schemes that are also funded by ERDF and managed by the Tourism and Sustainable Development Unit. These presentations were wrapped up with a presentation on the role of the Eco-certification followed by a short intervention from Wasteserv Malta. The aim of the seminar was to inform hotels of the opportunities offered through these schemes and to clarify certain aspects of the application process relevant to each scheme through a Q&A session.
