Promoting pilgrimage travel
MTA set up a stand at the first JOSP FEST – Journeys of the Spirit Festival which was held in Rome from 15-18 January in order to promote Pilgrimage Travel to the Maltese Islands.
The Festival was organised by Opera Romana Pellegrinaggi ORP which is operated by the Vatican and which is the leading tour operator in this segment. During the fair MTA promoted The Pauline Year in Malta and the cult of St. Paul; Malta’s rich Archaeological Heritage; Valletta and its Baroque Art and Architecture; The Knights of Malta – Co-Cathedral of St. John; The Holy Week and Easter in Malta; Gozo and its Christian Faith. Dominic Micallef, MTA Segment Head History & Culture was interviewed by RAI 3 about the importance of Pilgrimage Travel in Malta. Although most groups that come to Malta on a pilgrimage hail from Italy MTA will be promoting Pilgrimage travel in other markets as well. In April the MTA History & Culture Segment will also be setting up a stand at the fair ‘Pilgus’ which will be held in Mainz, Germany.
