MTA Innovation Seminars

The second in a series of Innovation Seminars, organised by the Malta Tourism Authority, Industry Human Resources Development Unit entitled Creative Thinking to Develop Innovative Products in Tourism was well received by over 40 local tourism and hospitality operators participating. This seminar, held on Wednesday 29th October 2008, served as an opportunity for exchange of ideas, offering insight into the creation of successful innovative tourism products.

The seminars three speakers presented case studies related to innovation, more specifically to the tourism sector. A case study related to the transformation of Palazzo Falzon into a living museum, adopting a range of exciting concepts to attract various audiences thereby keeping clients interested and returning. The Sailing Team and the Carbon Challenge Academy initiative dealing with the global issue of Climate Change. as well as the concept of Edward de Bono’s Six Thinking Hats The interactive seminar ended with an open forum based on Creating an Innovative Product in view of Climate Change awareness which encouraged participants to use the six thinking hats.

The Industry Human Resources Development Unit within the MTA is responsible for the development of national human resource development initiatives for the tourism industry. This is done through promoting a service culture within the industry thereby raising service standards; through building a strong liaison with employment, education and training institutions on actions required for the industry; and through the implementation of EU funded projects relating to human resources development.
