Largest cook out ever!

Malta's largest cook out ever!

The opening night of the Birgu Fest this year saw a very unusual event take place!

The largest Risottata ever on the Islands! A pot 3.3 metres in diameter and weighing 520 kilos was brought to Malta for the occasion. The pot can serve up to 5,000 people in one go.

This pot is used to cook a typical risotto for the Piemonte Region - risotto alla Luganiga. The Malta risottata saw going into the massive pot, 20 chickens, 20kgs of beef, 90 kgs of Luganiga sausages, 20kg of cheese, 300kg of rice, 60kg of vegetables and 120 litres of white wine. So it was a culinary feast, all ably coordinated by the ITS student chefs under the watchful eyes of the Italian master Chef who accompanied the pentolone.

Despite the inclement weather it was estimated that 3,000 people were served a warm plate of risotto on the night. All proceeds from this event are to be donated to Dar tal-Providenza.
