A night in Casal Fornaro

On 11th October 2007 some major parts of Qormi, a town famed for its making of bread, went back to the past with the activity of Lejl f'Casal Fornaro. This activitiy was organised by youth members of the 'Kummissjoni Zghazagh Bastjanizi' with the co-operation of Maypole Bakery Ltd, and also supported by the Qormi Local Council as well as the Malta Tourism Authority. All the hard work of the KZB and its members paid off that night, with an estimated 6,000 people attending this first event of its kind.

Because of this, in the name of the KZB I am proud to announce that this one-night activity will be held for a second time in the streets of Qormi. 'Lejl f'Casal Fornaro' which basically means 'A night in Casal Fornaro’ (as Qormi was known back in the Knights' period) will make a come-back on Saturday, 11th of October, 2008.

This activity willtransform various streets into what they once were hundreds of years ago by means of a folkloristic ambiance as well as traditional decorations and adornments. As a result, those who attend will goback in time; not onlywill they enteran old town, but they will also enter Casal Fornaro, home of thefirst bakers of Malta. The streets will serve as a stage for variousactivitiesincludinglive drama, cultural shows, folkloristic dancing,Maltese traditional songs, crafts and artistic exhibitions, and many other things thatwill make Lejl f’Casal Fornaro one of the best cultural eventsorganised in the Maltese islands.

On this occasion, one can roam the streets and appreciate the way our ancestors lived, experience the process in which Maltese bread is made, or just enjoy the traditional atmosphere with a glass of wine. This activity will certainly be a unique and enjoyable one.
