George Cross award re-enactment
Marking the 66th anniversary of the award of the George Cross to the people of Malta, the Malta Tourism Authority organised a faithful re-enactment, complete with period costume for civilians, army, navy and religious personalities, including the original toga worn by Chief Justice George Borg in 1942. The Armed Forces of Malta band filed into Palace Square representing the King's Own Malta Regiment's Band originally performing in 1942. The Malta Police Guard of Honour and the Malta Police Band also represented Units present for the original 1942 ceremony. Also taking part in the presentation were the Boy Scouts and Girl Guides Associations.

British Services veterans from around the world attended the commemoration
Dr Mario de Marco, Parliamentary Secretary for Tourism paid host to two special guests: Mr Bruno Peek OBE MVO, Chairman of the Enjoy England Celebrate St. George’s Day and Hon. Andrew Rosindell MP, UK. Special guests included the British High Commissioner a group of hundred from the George Cross Island association as well as the British Legion. The army and St. John’s Ambulance provided ancillary support for the event.
