This years' Malta-sponsored BGTW Awards Ceremony easily ranked amongst the most successful BGTW events

Malta makes a huge impact at the ‘British guild of travel writers awards’ dinner

The Malta Tourism Authority, together with Malta's national carrier, Air Malta and the Hotel Fortina Spa Resort, sponsored the prestigious British Guild of Travel Writers Annual Awards Dinner, held at the Savoy Hotel, London on Sunday 11 November. The event was a great success and placed a huge spotlight on Malta being the ‘best kept secret of the Mediterranean’.

The BGTW Awards dinner is the equivalent of the BAFTA’s for travel writers and delivers awards and accolades to travel writers based in the UK.

A specially crafted menu with a Maltese twist was created by Tom Kime, executive chef of Taste restaurant at the Hotel Fortina Spa Resort. The menu included rare carapaccio of tuna from a 125 kilogram Maltese tuna which was flown in especially from Malta, along with 60 kilograms of Grade A’ Gambero Rossi prawns caught in Maltese waters, all of which created quite a splash amongst the guests.

Sam Misfud, Chairman, Malta Tourism Authority and Chris Fenech, Director UK & Ireland, Malta Tourism Authority both addressed the event, presenting a deeper insight into the multiple facets of the Maltese Islands. During the impressive visual Malta presentation, those present were able to witness first hand the scope of the diversity of the Malta product offer; from a 7,000 year old history and heritage component to a vast annual calendar of top international cultural and entertainment events.

“The BGTW Awards Gala Dinner was a wonderful and unique opportunity for Malta to showcase our wares amongst some of the most important and influential travel journalists across the UK. We are convinced that our participation in this initiative will have plenty of significant and positive feedback in the coming weeks and months”, commented Sam Misfud, Chairman, Malta Tourism Authority.

All those present at the Awards Ceremony last night left with a sizable goody bag which had Mdina glass artifacts, delicacies from Malta including; Wardija olive oil, goats cheese, honey and dried tomatoes, a bottle of Laurenti wine as well as informative Malta brochures, DVDs and much more.

Many of the delegates attending last night's Awards Dinner expressed the opinion that this years’ Malta-sponsored BGTW Awards Ceremony easily ranked amongst the most successful BGTW events.
