Malta participates in the 2007anniversary celebrations of the Battle of Lepanto in Greece.

In Guardia suitably attired for the events represented Malta on Saturday in the celebrations marking the historic victory of the Battle of Lepanto in the picturesque town of Nafpaktos, Greece.

The town of Nafpaktos celebrates the anniversary of the victory of the "Holy League" against the Ottoman Navy on the 7 October 1571, a battle of particular importance for Europe. Malta, Italy, Austria, Croatia and San Marino joined the Greeks in this year's spectacular march of living history through the town’s harbour. The Maltese contingent included a Cavaliere Gran Croce sporting the Maltese cross. Malta Tourism Authority with the help of the Maltese Embassy in Athens, Airmalta and the Municipality of Nafpaktos have made this participation possible.
