Docu-Fiction – Il Mistero della Morte di Melchiorre Cafà
In recent weeks, the Malta Tourism Authority was contacted by Dott. Marino Maranzara, author and producer of a Docu-Fiction, ‘Il Mistero della morte di Melchiorre Cafa’. Dott. Maranzara expressed keen interest in filming parts of this ambitious docu-fiction in Malta. Contacts were immediately established by the MTA with a view to providing the necessary incentives for this project to come to pass.
2007 commemorates the 340 years from the death of the genius sculptor ‘Melchoirre Cafa’. The Docu-Fiction will focus on various episodes of the sculptor’s life, his mysterious death and also the restoration of one of his famous works found at the church of S. Caterina a Magnanapoli in Rome. This film will also concentrate on Rome’s magic atmosphere during the sixteen hundred and the interesting history of the Island of Malta during the period of the Knights of St John. The film will be produced in the English language, for eventual screening on international channels, such as Discovery, The History Channel and others.
This Docu-Fiction will be presented during the most important world Festivals dedicated to cinema such as Festival of Venice, Festival of Cannes, Cinema of Archaeology of Roverto, Film festival BrixtenArt and Film festival di Palazzo Venezia.
A meeting between Dott. Maranzara, D.ssa Patrizia Miotti and Mr. Kevin Drake and Ms Stella Vella from the Malta Tourism Authority was held on the 23rd March, 2007 at the Tourism Fair in Rome, Globe07. Since the filming will represent Malta as Malta the exposure and promotion of our Island will be very high. This project will be supported by the Italian Ministry of Internal Affairs and by the Malta Tourism Authority.
Carabinieri 7
The Malta Tourism Authority will be supporting the popular Italian TV Fiction-Series, ‘Carabinieri 7’. This fiction has been very popular in Italy for the last six years with a viewer-ship of four million a week. Since the filming will represent Malta as Malta and not as a double for another location the exposure of our Island will be very high. The shooting of two episodes 13 and 14 will be held in Malta where Malta will have 60% in each episode. Shooting of the episodes will be held around October.
A meeting to conclude the agreement between MTA and Fidia Film producers of the said fiction was held in the beginning of March, 2007 in Rome. Present for this meeting were Fidia Film Managing Director, General Organiser, Director and Assistant Director and Ms Stella Vella and Mr. Reuben Vella Bray for the Malta Tourism Authority.
