EU Funded Projects

Within the 2007 budget, the Maltese government allocated a significant amount of money from the 2007 – 2013 EU Structural Funds, towards projects aimed at enhancing tourism zones and the overall tourism product offer. Below are a few of the projects being proposed for implementation in the immediate future.

All of the project proposals featured below are pending formal submission and approval and are being presented for information purposes only, without prejudice to the relevant project evaluation processes.

Tourism Zone Product Improvements

Remodelling and redesign of Pjazza Sant Anna, Marsascala

An improved layout and better landscaped garden within this important urban space of Marsascala, making better use of the space and maximising use of the sea views. A well designed space will provide a stronger sense of identity to this seaside resort, thus encouraging more people, tourists and Maltese to visit the locality.

Garden and landscaped slopes, Pembroke

A landscaped open space in the immediate vicinity of three major hotels and with a belvedere providing open sea views.

Education facility / visitor attraction, landscaped garden and seaside promenade, Qawra

A high quality development with a diversity of open air leisure spaces and facilities for Maltese and for tourists and to provide a facility which is educational and which also provides a visitor attraction for the Bugibba Qawra area.

Embellishment of promenade and creation of a panoramic coastal walkway at St Paul's Bay

An extensive upgrading project comprising primarily of the embellishment of the seafront. The project seeks to create a pedestrian priority walkway within the most traditional and picturesque areas of St Paul's Bay.

Beach Development

Upgrading of coastal area and development of a sandy beach at Ix-Xtajta tal-Qawra, St Paul's Bay

The upgrade of a very popular coastal resort for recreational purposes during the summer months as well as extending its enjoyment also through the winter periods. Since the area is also situated in one of Malta's most important tourism zones, the project will enhance the product to tourism, hence assisting in the economical development of the Island.

Upgrading of coastal swimming rocky beach along Font Ghadir, Tower Road, Sliema

The upgrade of a very popular rocky beach zone located along a recently upgraded promenade in Sliema. The project aims to provide better access into the sea as well as extending its enjoyment also through the winter periods. Since the area is also situated in one of Malta's most important tourism zones, the project will enhance the product to tourism, hence assisting in the economical development of the Island.
