Band playing at Malta International Airport

Ryanair Welcome

Ryanair’s inaugural flight from Dublin, the third destination that the Irish Low Cost Carrier commenced operations to Malta from, landed at MIA on the 8th of February with an almost full capacity.

As was the case with the previous two inaugural flights from Luton and Pisa, in November 2006, officials and animators from the Malta Tourism Authority were at the airport to give a truly Maltese welcome to all the passengers on the flight. Dancers, a typical Maltese Brass band, as well as costumed valets welcomed the passengers in the Arrivals lounge, and flowers, bottles of Maltese wine and bars of traditional nougat were handed out to all those alighting from the flight. The impression left on the Ryanair passengers was, to say the least, immensely positive. It is envisaged that similar welcomes will be organised in the coming weeks and months for the GermanWings inaugural flights from Cologne and Stuttgart in March and the Clickair inaugural flight from Barcelona in June, amongst others.
