EUROPEAN TV SERIES SHOT IN MALTA

The Malta Tourism Authority was instrumental in providing the necessary incentives to bring over a Polish TV crew to film two episodes of the immensely popular TV show Kryminalni in Malta.

The series, which is broadcast on Polish TV station TVN, has an average viewership of 6 million per episode. The episodes shot in Malta are also set in Malta, since the storyline contemplates the series’ protagonists traveling to Malta to apprehend a notorious Polish criminal with the assistance of local detectives (played by Maltese actors Clare Agius and Malcolm Galea). The crew spent 14 days filming in Malta, focusing on areas such as Marsaxlokk, Birgu Valletta and Gozo. Before each of the two episodes are screened, a thirty minute ‘The Making of Kryminalni in Malta’ feature will be aired on a very popular TV breakfast show. Over and above, the station will air sixty 30 second adverts on Malta, including the series’ protagonists giving their views on Malta and talking about their experiences here.

The MTA is also making the necessary arrangements to assist with the filming requirements of other very popular European TV series, such as the Belgian series ‘Familie’, the Italian series ‘Carabinieri’ (Canale 5), as well as the immensely popular UK series ‘Coronation Street’.  Discussions are currently underway with the producers of the latter series.
